The City of Lyons is asking all residents and businesses to help conserve water.
Due to an extended period of dry weather and significantly higher-than-normal water usage, our water system is experiencing increased demand. At this time, there are no mandatory water restrictions in place, but we are asking everyone to voluntarily reduce water use whenever possible.
Here are a few easy ways you can help:
- Water lawns only if necessary, and only during the early morning or evening hours.
- Delay washing vehicles, driveways, and sidewalks.
- Postpone filling swimming pools or other large water uses.
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
- Fix leaking faucets, toilets, and hoses.
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing dishes.
Every gallon saved helps reduce demand on our water system and helps ensure there is enough water available for essential needs and fire protection.
If water consumption continues at its current pace and dry conditions persist, the City may have no choice but to implement mandatory water conservation measures. We hope to avoid that, and with everyone's help, we can.
Thank you for working together to protect one of our community's most valuable resources. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
